Well first off, here’s hoping y’all know what a pipe-dream is.

At any rate, In Praise of the Pipe-Dream. The impossible, totally irrational vista of whatever it is that you and your pipe are dreaming about in that fleeting moment it takes to construct a whole elaborate fantasy. I recently had a pipe dream which led me to believe that this post might be worth reading.

In all seriousness though, I honestly think that there is nothing in the human experience allows us the freedom to play about with our own motivations and deepest desires better than fantasy. And what better to temper our reality against… there’s a quote out there by Wendell Berry, from his book The Unsettling of America that I swore I wrote down, but now cannot find, nor can I seem to find a copy of the book itself which my poverty-stricken person can lay hands to in order to copy it down… but it has to do with the human desire to try for perfection. Any cognoscenti out there who could send me a copy of that quote… I even know it’s on page 204, because I jotted that down in a notebook… but did I copy the quote… oh no. At any rate it’s a hell of a good read, and as I was saying, any cognoscenti who could find and e-mail me a copy of that quote… just go to our become a poster option and send it via e-mail there, first person to send it in, wins my undying gratification… plus I’ll name the next pet I happen to acquire whatever they want.
