insomnia: Future American lawyers to be proud of.
Alberto Gonzales spoke before law students at Georgetown today, justifying illegal, unauthorized surveilance of US citizens, but during the course of his speech the students in class did something pretty ballsy and brave. They got up from their seats and turned their backs to him.
To make matters worse for Gonzales, additional students came into the room, wearing black cowls and carrying a simple banner, written on a sheet.
My hopes are reaffirmed. There really are people out there who are paying attention and voicing their displeasure in what small ways that they can.
I am surprised that the generation that was conceived by the people of the seventies are such sheep. We are all spending our time dazzled by the thought forms endlessly spat out by the television. But are we really paying attention? And when it makes us angry are we more likely to actually do something about it, or merely change the channel or put on a good movie?

A bonnie gude post.
I see signs of hope. If you searched the newspaper archives of the rebellious 60s and 70s, would you find news reports of law school students of that era doing anything approaching the consciousness of these latter-day student cognoscenti? Please let me know if you do and I will sit back down and don a somber hat. As long as there is progress like this I will point a stalwart chin toward the future and do what I can to adjust the trimtab.
