Behind the Scenes at Lewd Cognoscenti

Yes, it was another evening where the cognoscenti gathered, and I was left to keep track of the fundamental imagery discussed. Gentle reader, understand that I will do my level best to attempt a synthesis of the ideals which bounced between the finite jester and the talking plant, but ultimately that becomes an impossibility.

I watched a million half-sketched ideals march into the air, propelled primarily by disgust. The staff at Lewd Cognoscenti found ourselves momentarily unable to post anything we felt deserving of mass dissemination and instead drowned our sorrows in intoxicating fluid and an attempt to track out the pathways of digression.

I know both of them quite well; talking plant and finite jester, and perhaps that means that I am in the best position to comment on the way that a fundamental dichotomy exists and constantly stymies these figures who desire something that exists beyond easily definable reality. These two cats, and myself as well, are trying to provide positive reinforcement to those who already get it and at the same time provide a basic dictionary for those who simply seek something which has no readily attainable referents inside the contemporary discourse.

The problem with the laughter of the damned is that only the damned can laugh. Occasionally this truth settles into the bones and manifests itself as a nearly crippling case of ennui, or a blind rage which can find no suitable target.

Behind the scenes at Lewd Cognoscenti we have individuals; conflicted and troubled like the rest of us, and yet they care deeply. Perhaps they care too deeply, perhaps they were born into the wrong era and belong instead in a time when idealistic dreamers could fit more comfortably inside the contemporary discourse.

We do attempt to temper the laughter of the damned. Our mission statement is to provide reasons to smile, reasons to stop and wonder at all the beauty that surrounds us as humans doing this little life thing on this small planet. We do try to keep our sorrows at bay, or at least private, in the hope that we can focus more on the laughter than the damned.

Strange thing to say in a post like this, I present these lingering notions from the last meeting of the cognoscenti in the hopes that acknowledging these things will either help you to see our humanity or provide you with proof that there are others out there howling in the wasteland.
