so i made a trip to the guitar shop,
had to purchase picks

and since this activity required
a quick lap to run envious eyes
across the equipment on display,
i happened to see
not one, but two!
young guys
wearing iron maiden shirts
each of them towing
a pretty young girlfriend

at the end of my tour,
one of those kids
had pulled a metal guitar,
complete with blue lightning,
off the wall and was
eyes closed lost
parsing out a passable
van halen style solo
while the girl with plenty
of makeup and bracelets
offsetting her physical assets
stared into the distracted distance

somehow it struck me
that there are worse things
than yet another soul
lost to rock ‘n’ roll
