it’s good to have dreams come true
tonight, i feel like i have joined
a somewhat selective group
a weird cross-section of the populace
with loud secrets they’d like to share
there’s a monster in my basement
i helped to move it in . . .
a little heavy lifting,
the running of cords
and it powers up,
it growls and sings
my neighbors are going to love me
when this thing is fully on its feet
and broadcasting
i remember, as a kid, when
a friend of mine had
a monster in his basement
under his brother’s control
(to the extent that one
can be said to control such things)
the tangled cords
and silent amps
were powerful things
even in their slumber
and i couldn’t wait
until the day
i had one of my own
now, that wait is over
i’ve found myself flicking on the lights,
descending half-way down the stairs
to verify that it’s actually there,
and it is,
tangled cords and silent amps,
lending an aura of power
and strange beauty
to the musty atmosphere
that has so far known only storage,
in my basement lurks;
a monster in repose
waiting for sunday
so that it might explode

Can I come over and play sometime? I’ll bring monster food and excotic melodies.
This one goes to 11!

It has grown, morphed, and it lives on!
