watching the idle

quick hard fluctuations of interest
overloaded screen

i think i read nausea about every year round this time
as a sort of inoculation against the angst
we wind up drawing in
in the winter
seeking shelter naturally
scratching out across the terrain
that surrounds us

i know why the caged mind dings

(in the joke variant of this idea
the punchline is that it’s done,
but that seemed to me too dependent
on this sprawl of little machines
thru which we can stare in at our food
and in a world of hungry brains
it’s not polite to gloat [and to think
when i started that this was gonna
be a short little divergence {couldn’t
think how to end it]})

just shaking the bars of the cage
making no promises that i’ll ever get out
but every know (intentional?) and then i hear that sweet sound
as a piece of the cage gives

{sound effect omitted}

just felt i had to add, when i first loaded the page to view this; the banner photo was ‘broke down getting help now’ and the random quote generator read . . .

What are the stars, but holes in the body of god
where we insert the healing needles of our terror and longing.

    Thomas Pynchon

but i could be making it up
