So a friend tagged me the other day and asked me to participate in the ‘life in song’ meme . . . essentially attempting to provide some form of overview of your life in pieces of lyrics from ten different artists . . .
I love a good challenge, and this bugged me a bit, because at a mere ten, I had to throw out a bunch of good stuff; but I think this will work for now . . .
- finite
We were laughing at the stars while our feet clung tight to the ground
So pleased with ourselves for using so many verbs and nouns
(Modest Mouse)
I once had a life
Or rather
Life had me
I was one among many
Or at least I seemed to be
(Funkadelic)
I remember
the good old days,
Stayed up all night
gettin’ crazed.
Then the money
was not so good,
But we still did
the best we could.
Ooh baby,
that’s hard to change
I can’t tell them
how to feel.
Some get stoned,
some get strange,
But sooner or later
it all gets real.
Walk on . . .
(Neil Young)
Goodnight my Anda-Lucia.
Don’t buy all the lies that they feed ya.
And though you’re heading slowly to some place I can’t respect,
I’ll keep you in my collection of regrets.
(Two Gallants)
Up on the shoulder
There is a town
With a little motel
And an old movie house
Well go to a movie
Whatever it is
Watching the movie
The worlds gonna end
And there ain’t no place for
A boy and his friends to go
Ill pick some daisies
From the flower bed
Of the galaxy theater
While you clear your head
I thought some daisies
Might cheer you up . . .
(The Eels)
Do you realize, that everyone you know, someday will die
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes
Let them know you realize that life goes fast,
It’s hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun, doesn’t go down
It’s just an illusion caused by the world, spinning round
(The Flaming Lips)
So, I’ll continue to continue to pretend
My life will never end
And flowers never bend
With the rainfall
(Simon and Garfunkle)
Well everybody’s dancing in a ring around the sun
Nobody’s finished, we ain’t even begun.
So take off your shoes, child, and take off your hat.
Try on your wings and find our where its at.
(The Grateful Dead)
There is a girl in New York City,
Who calls herself the human trampoline,
And sometimes when I’m falling flying
Or tumbling in turmoil I say
Whoa so this is what she means,
She means we’re bouncing into Graceland,
(Paul Simon)
Why in the world are we here
Surely not to live in pain and fear
Why on earth are you there
When you’re everywhere
Come and get your share
Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
(John Lennon)
