It’s a rare book that can make you shudder, make you grip its pages a little too tightly and actually curse with disgust at the actions of its characters. This is a rare book.
In You Remind Me of Me Dan Chaon tracks the different destinies of one incredibly tangled family. The story is told through a broken chronology, where we get to dip into Chaon’s reality at a number of different years, and slowly the connections of the characters emerge.
i’ve heard wise men say
that your dreams can tell you things
that they speak of the stuff
your unconscious mind is coming to grips with
dreams are the manifestation
of your worries
and your fears
they also speak to your hopes and longings
when i was younger i found
that i could have lucid dreams quite easily
and tune the story
sometimes even fly like superman
Having one of those thought-streams the other day in which I was wondering about the process of linguistic development and how it affects the way that the world is viewed. But don’t worry, this post isn’t about that, I’m not even close to the level of motivation required to tack down all my little notions about semantics and try to make sense of them. i’m going to write a novel about a really anxious guy
or wait! even better! a poem!
about a really anxious guy
no… a really anxious guy who can’t decide what
it is that he wants to do!
When you’ve decided to quit smoking and are working on writing a novel that encourages you to peer into all the strange corners of your psyche; it’s nice to think the process is getting you somewhere.
